For my artistic soul, nothing’s better than sitting on a beach sketching the massive ocean, the dunes, or even the clouds sagging low on the horizon. One of my favorite places in the world is along Highway 30-A in Florida–the beautiful pastel colored town of Seaside, Florida. After a day at the beach, I like to aimlessly wander through Seaside ducking in and out of art galleries and enjoying the yummy food. Here’s a typical day for this artist in Seaside, Florida.
I arrive at Seaside around lunch time and stop at Bud and Alley’s Taco Stand for fish tacos and guacamole. I eat the same thing every time I visit Bud and Alley’s, it’s always awesome and I often have cravings in Georgia for their guacamole. Yum!
Next I visit the Shops at Ruskin and the main square in Seaside. There are so many great art galleries, but here are two of my favorites:
I visit some other non-art stores but I have love them so, I can’t resist. Everything is so just so cool and has a certain aesthetic in Seaside. Here’s a few of my other favorite Seaside places. Art is everywhere, so even in Modica’s Gourmet Grocery store, I see the art in beautiful food!
The girls (my daughter and friend) enjoy time at the beach and meet me in the square. They have a few stores they want to browse through but soon we just enjoy walking along the streets looking at the beautiful architecture of Seaside beach houses.
We end the day with a frothy latte at Amavida Coffee.
In Amavida, I pick up this great magazine and it just so happens to be the Artist Issue of Vie. I read about the pop art and cover art of artist, Sarah Ashley Longshore (http://www.ashleylongshore.com/). Thinking of The Purses Project, Sarah caught my attention with her desire to “be the next artist on a line of Louis Vuitton specialized bags”
Now back at home, I’m working on transferring some of my beach sketches to canvas.
If you’re a fellow artist, you might be interested in two incredible opportunities that Seaside offers to artists (I wish big time I could do just one of these!)
